Denentoshi Line (Ichigaya HardOff/OffHouse, Ichigao HardOff, Eda Treasure Factory, Nagatsuda HardOff/OffHouse and Oimachi HardOff):

This is another good line to take for HardOffs and a Treasure Factory. Both being pretty good and dependable recycle stores.

Here's the order I will be reviewing the stores in:
  • Ichigaya HardOff/OffHouse
  • Eda Treasure Factory
  • Ichigao HardOff
  • Nagatsuda HardOff/Offhouse
  • Oimachi HardOff (on Oimachi line) - maybe closed now.

First, let's look at the Denentoshi line:For me, I can take two routes to get to the Denentoshi line. I can take the Oimachi line from Jiyugaoka and change at Futagotamagawa onto the Denentoshi line or I can go to Musashi Kosugi and take the Nambu line to Mizunoguchi.

Travelling in the Chuorinkan direction, I first come to Kajigaya.

I like this HardOff. For two reasons. Firstly, it has some bargains (but also some expensive stuff) and secondly, it is on the way to my favourtite booze shop, Sugaya Beer (Japanese site / English info ). I'll have a review on that place soon. Awesome place and wonderful people (this was the place I had the 'Belgian experience' at).
Address:
神奈川県川崎市高津区向ヶ丘133-1

GoogleEarth route:
This place is on the right side, after a good 2km walk or cycle from the station. After about a km, you'll cross highway 246 via the pdeestrian bridge. When you get to the HardOff, you'll see it on the right side:
The HardOff/Offhouse is on the 2nd floor. Check it out. As you enter the place, on the left side is a table with lots of super cheap junk. It may be worth having a quick search through the crap, just in case there's a bargain to be had. I found quite a few unexpected bargains in that collection of stuff! This store isn't that cheap, although you may find the occasional steal (without actually stealing). You just gotta look. They have the HardOff section on the right side, at the far end (with a junk section at the back). Ok for speakers, junk cameras, clothes, bags and baby stuff.
They have a few overpriced bicycles for sale here. Some crazy prices.

Like I mentioned before, I usually continue on to the fabulous Sugaya Beer Store and pick up a few brews. If I'm lucky, the wonderful ladies who work there may let me have one of the beers they sometimes serve on draught at a good price (the last one was Weltenberger Assam Bock, at 500 yen for a good glass - lovely).
Here are a few pics of the place:They have a great selection of some of the world's best booze and also a really good variety of glasses.
If you decide to visit, say hi from Chris (the Welshman).

Another 6 stops on the Denentoshi line takes you to Eda.

Eda Treasure Factory:
A treasure Factory is basically an OffHouse, but with a larger variety of goods. Yuo can excepts anything at this place. I've found items ranging from a life sized ET to a real, functioning 10foot water wheel or from a 4 wheeled quad racing motorbike to a pair of prosthetic breasts.
Address: 神奈川県横浜市青葉区荏田町424-3

Here's the GoogleEarth route:
This is one of the more interesting Treasure Factories.
It's my local. 8km from my place, it's withing cycling range. I bought a few christmas presents and hosuehold items from here. Not bad place. Loads of refridgerators and some furniture. Good for household stuff too. This one and Machida are my favourite treasure Factories.

Ichigao HardOff:
Address:
神奈川県横浜市青葉区荏田西5-18-1

GoogleEarth route:

It's a small hard off. A long walk. At least 10 or 15 minutes. The last 5 or 10 are up a hill. The HardOff is about 200m past the KFC, just beofre McDonalds, on the left side. Inside you'll find mostly electronic goods. Cameras, monitors, digital stuff and amybe a telescope. Upstairs is the junk section and a small golf equipment section. The junk isn't the cheapest but for the size of the store, it isn't bad.

This baby is the closest and also lies on the Denentoshi Line.
It's quite large and is about a 10 minute walk from the station.

They have a lot of model and collectible stuff, women's clothes, sillly porcelain, some camping equipment, sports equipment (golf clubs, and sportswear, etc) and some household goods. They have the ocasional bargain and always have a few bicycles on display, outside the entrance. Prices are not too bad. Their junk section is not too bad, either. I often check this place out, when I'm in the area.

Here's my google Earth route:
(p.s. from Nagatsuda, you can change to the Yokohama line and check out the Machida, Kobuchi, Fuchinobe, Hashimoto and Hachioji Hardoffs! Also, there are Treasure Factories at Machida and Sagamihara. If you have time, it's well worth it.)

Oimachi HardOff:

Google Earth Route:
Strictly, this one isn't on the Denentoshi line. It's actually on the Oimachi line. To get on this, you'd have to go to Futagotamagawa and take the Oimachi line, past Jiyugaoka, all the way to the end of the line!
Very close to the station. You can see it from the station exit. It's not so big and has lots of clothes and crap I'm never interested in (Who needs clothes when you're the missing link?).They have a small store on the 3rd floor with a tiny OffHouse-ish section and a small HardOff.
Not much here. Maybe you can find something but good luck.

Exit this way:
No pets:No food:Poor monkey.

Not near any other store I know of. Only occasionally go here.
About 400m away. If you're there, why not check out the big store in the same building. Go to the other end of the building and look in the far bottom corner, ground floor. They have an interesting selection of booze! The nasty and overpriced Coedo beer and some other interesting beers.

Happy hunting.

Yokohama line (Nagatsuda, Machida, Kobuchi, Fuchinobe, Hashimoto, Hachioji)

Phew! Well, this is it. This is the motherload. I think this is the best line to take, for HardOffs and recycle stores. Besides from the 6 HardOffs/OffHouses on this line, there are 2 Treasure Factories (Machida and Sagamihara) and quite a few other recycle stores (as well as a sportsOff/HouseOff near Machida, on highway16). The Yokohama line HardOffs are also among the most reasonable for prices. They are ebst for electronics and electrical goods and also for junk.
Hachioji is quite big and Kobuchi is very close tot eh station and quite interesting.

Here are my reports for the Yokohama Line HardOffs:
  • Nagatsuda HardOff/OffHouse
  • Machida HardOff
  • Kobuchi HardOff/OffHouse
  • Fuchinobe HardOff
  • Haashimoto HardOff
  • Hachioji HardOFf/OffHouse

This is quite close to Machida Station. Walk back towards TokyuHands and turn left. It's on the corner. It has about 4 or 5 floors. The floor size isn't that big. It has a HardOff, containing some electronic hardware and a small junk area. The uppper floors are for clothes, sportswear and some sports equipment. There's not much stuff here but you can occasionally find a good deal. Machida is also home to a good Treasure Factory. This is about 10 or 15minutes walk from the station, towards Kobuchi). I'll be making an entry on this Treasure Factory soon.

This is a handy HardOff. Barely a few minutes walk from the station.

The address:
神奈川県相模原市古淵2-15-1

Here's the Google Earth view:Here's a pic of the HardOff. You can see the BookOff on the other side of the road.
Although now, I think there is construction going on, on the outside of the HardOff:
Here's the view from the station (I told you it was close):
A nice little hardoff. Lots of cups and glasses and quite a lot of household stuff on the third floor. Some toys and models, too. Decent junk section. An example of what you may find:

Fuchinobe HardOff:
This little hardoff is a long way from Fuchinobe Station. We're talking over 5km. It is probably not worth it, if you don't have a super sweet awesome folding bike to get you there and back. It's pretty small and at the moment, they're remodelling the interior and lots of stuff is being moved around. They have some electronic hardware and musical instruments onthe ground floor and a small but interesting junk section on the second floor. Nothing fantastic.

Here's the map:
Here's my Google Earth route:Try to get on the highway 57. Then, just keep on going.

Address: 東京都町田市図師町604-3

You'll see this place, down a slope on the left side, just after turning left past the ModeOff:

This one is about 10 to 15mins walk from Hashimoto Station.
It's not bad. They usually have something interesting there. It's a bit of a walk but there are lots of shops on the way. There's a sports authority, a good 100yen store, a baskin robbins and lots of big stores.
Address:
神奈川県相模原市橋本8-27-7

Google Earth route:Here's a pic:You may decide to have a break and grab some ice cream at Baskin Robbins:

This one is part of a group of stores. There's the HardOff/OffHouse and next to it is a HobbyOff and a BookOff. There's another store just across the street. It's quite a walk to get here. You'll cross a river and turn left jsut before a big road. A good 15minutes walking. But the store is pretty big. Great junk section.Address: 東京都八王子市大和田町5-17-5
